Prolific Writer and Prophetic Dreamer: Author TeKenya Johnson on Manifesting Beauty In All Things Written

A Prolific Writer is often known for their creative and unique writing style. A Prophetic Dreamer, on the other hand, is known for their ability to see into the future and interpret the meaning of their dreams. Both of these gifts can be used to help others. They both also have the potential to be very powerful. This is what makes TeKenya Johnson unique. She uses her gift to help others by providing them with insights and perspectives they may not have otherwise had. She also uses her gifts to help others by providing them with guidance and direction.

TeKenya’s passion for empowering others through the written word is evident in her work. She let the world know her writing is more than simply a means of communication; for her, it is also a way of providing support and guidance to others. She cares deeply about her impact on her readers and is constantly seeking new ways to better serve her audience. This is what makes her the remarkable and prolific woman she is.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with TeKenya for an interview, and it was evident from our conversation that she is a dreamer with an active impact. Despite already being an accomplished writer, she remains humble and ready for what God has in store for her.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me. Tell the readers about yourself and what inspired you to become a writer.

I love to create. There is always creativity going on in my mind. I am what some call a Prophetic Scribe and Prophetic Dreamer. I write in my journals daily, even if it is only one or two words. I draw pictures and figures if I can’t quite put them in words that day. I consider myself a Master Builder, whether in words or deeds. I like to build things.

As a mother of two boys, our home was always the neighborhood house where children would always play in our yard. Kids would jump the fence, especially when we had the barbeque grill going. Ha! I write to help others. I believe I am called & chosen to help make this world better. I have a mission to fulfill this thing here on the earth. I am a Destiny Helper.

Can you share something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?

Yes. “Be The Rhythm.” Have you ever Doubled-Dutch jump rope before? You have two ropes with a person on both ends of the ropes. Feeling the inner beat of your heart rhythm. It is learning how to move to the thumping over a beat. You can jump shorter or longer. In this chapter, I teach and show girls how to bond with other girls who have your life rhythm.

What is the significance of the title?

Rosebud’s Glow: Beauty In All Things comes from my Maternal Grandmother, Rosebud. Rosebud means an unopened flower of a rose which is why I wrote this book for young girls between the ages of 7 -18. Glow means to give out a steady radiant light. My Grandmother Rosebud played a very impactful part in my younger years. I loved going places with her, especially Saturday mornings. Saturday mornings were for shopping. We cleaned Friday evenings to have Saturdays to do what we wanted. She would always put on a beautiful floral dress and hat. Of course, I had my dress out and ready the night before. If I didn’t, I had to wear a short pant set which was ok sometimes. As a young girl, I learned a lot from her. She taught me that when you learn something, teach and show others the way. And so here I am, The Way shower!

Tell us about the process for coming up with the cover.

The process and idea for the book cover came from the color light blue — which was my grandmother’s favorite color. Light blue is a color of Health, Healing and promotes Tranquility. My Grandmother & I love nature. She loved being outside in her flower garden. Roses bring a sense of calmness and freedom. I decided on the color light blue because it reminded me of her. One day, I felt her presence while looking up at the sky and seeing the clouds and the sun. I added the pink rose as a statement to show that once you commit to nurturing yourself, you will begin to grow and glow. There is a quote I love, “Roses do not bloom hurriedly; for beauty, like any masterpiece, takes time to blossom.”

Where do you draw inspiration from?

As a creative being, I believe that I am. To me, this means being at one with self. When I am at one with self in my Mind, Body, and Spirit, I create at my best. I draw my inspiration from my intuition and things I like. As a creative being, I also get inspiration from connecting with God.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your books?

While writing books, I have discovered that I can write one or two words, and they can tell a story. Writing books is a process and journey. Once I start writing, other ideas seem to flow. Writing my books has helped me gain clarity on communicating clearly on my podcast, speaking engagements, and videos.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I am working in the community, offering mentorship and coaching services. I love to sit outside in nature near the water. I love to travel. I sing in a chorale, and our last performance was in Ontario, Canada, at Harriet Tubman’s Church. I love cooking new and favorite dishes for my family. I run an online clothing store called The Supreme Shop, where I Affirm Beauty, Love, and Value in others. I run a Girl’s Organization called The Rosebud’s Glow Girls Inc, where I mentor, coach, and celebrate them.

What books or authors have most influenced your writing?

Alice Walker; The Color Purple, Maya Angelou; I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings, Toni Morrison; The Bluest Eye and J K Rowling; Harry Potter. I was influenced to be my true authentic self in writing my books by these authors.

How many plot ideas are just waiting to be written? Can you tell us about one?

Yes, sure. A girl finds her superpowers while in Africa. Every year Kosetta and her two friends, Nova and Quinn, take an adventure trip somewhere in the world at the end of each summer. They all have been friends since the 1st grade. Kosetta has long black curly hair. Nova has a round face and dimples with short sandy blonde hair, and Quinn has medium-length reddish locks. The girls always travel by plane to meet at a central location.

Bags packed, passports ready, documentation and paperwork are all in order. Everyone is so excited because it’s that time of year when the Big KNQ Squad reunites. Kosetta’s phone rings. She answers. It’s Tyler on the other end, wanting to join the girls’ trip. Never have they had anyone else to tag along. It’s always been the three of them. Kosetta must break the news and find the courage to say no. It’s not easy saying no with the fear of being called mean and not being liked by others.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

When you are emotionally drained and stressed, take breaks and then restart. Taking care of your mental health is vital. You need rest to recuperate. The biggest tip I could give is that nothing can stop you from writing about yourself. Don’t waste time. Dedicate yourself to writing in a journal even if you miss a day. I still have journals that I have written from 15/20 years ago. There is richness in your writing. Write things that you care about. I have learned that Great Writers are Great Readers. Someone is waiting to read your books.
